We are delighted to report that we have been awarded a prestigious royal warrant for the supply of decorating materials to The Queen!
Brewers have been supplying decorating materials to a number of the royal households, including Buckingham Palace, for some decades. For a company to be awarded a royal warrant, beyond the simple supply of goods, the company has to demonstrate the highest standards in both operational ability and in ethical approach to doing business. Providing exceptional service to customers has always been the cornerstone of the Brewers family-run business so this recognition from the royal household is seen as a great accolade.
Simon Brewer comments: “We are extremely proud of this appointment as it is a real and very public commendation of our relentless focus on customer service. It is a reflection of the capability and customer focused nature of everyone who works for Brewers. There are only a few hundred companies in the world who carry the royal warrant and we are extremely honoured to be one of these select companies”
After 107 years in business, Brewers is still a family run company committed to running their business in a slightly different way to most others. With the company’s roots firmly in the Quaker tradition their starting point is one of trust and mutual respect between staff, suppliers and customers. The company aims to be the ‘local paint shop’ in all the communities in which it operates. With over 130 branches across the UK, Brewers have strived to maintain their family feel amid expansion.
Six direct descendants of the founder, Clement Brewer, work for the company today and there other families who have worked for Brewers through a number of generations. Some 60% of the 950 staff have worked for the company for six years or more. Of those, 170 have worked for the company for more than 20 years which is a testament to the family culture that has encouraged staff to stay within the company.
The long serving nature of so many staff and their passion for the products that they supply – be it paint, wallpaper, fabrics or a huge array of sundries, means the product knowledge of staff is second-to-none.
Whether supplying materials for Buckingham Palace, a building site, a hospital refurbishment or a private home, the Brewers family is committed to providing the right product for the job in hand with a friendly smile - just ask the Queen!

We are proud to announce that we have recently acquired two new branches in London from Paint Service Co. – one in Victoria and one in Hammersmith.
This extends the Brewers offering in Central London, adding to our Edgware Road, Peckham and Islington branches.
Paint Service Co. was founded in 1946 and has been a main source of decorating materials for the local trade since its opening. Both business have been owned and managed by Tony Connolly for the last 18 years. Tony’s father Dick, was the ICI representative for Putney and Surbiton, so collectively, their experience and knowledge has been vital to Brewers development.
As part of the acquisition, Tony will remain as manager at the Hammersmith branch and Joel Bevan will continue as manager at Victoria. Their experienced teams of staff, who have extensive knowledge and understanding of the decorating supplies industry, will be staying too. Both branches stock a complete range of decorating materials including Dulux, Crown, Sadolin, Sikkens and Little Greene and now the full Brewers range including Albany paint.
Tony Connolly, branch manager, comments: “Paint Service Co. has been a very successful business and we’ve been lucky enough to have some extremely loyal customers over the years; I am confident all will repeat their business now that we are a Brewers branch as well as gaining lots of new business. I have lots of trust in Brewers and the new prospects it can offer both branches, we look forward to being part of such a prestigious company.”
Stan Adams, commercial director at Brewers, also comments: “We’re delighted that Tony and his team at the two branches are joining us; they bring a strong heritage of serving the trade over many years and their knowledge is second-to-none. We’ve felt for a number of years that there was an opportunity for greater branch coverage in central London; undoubtedly a number of our present customers will find it useful to have central pick up points and with the Olympics just round the corner we look forward to a great year ahead.”
Brewers is the UK's largest independent supplier of decorating materials, with the widest range of paints, wallpapers and sundries in the market.

Adrian Joyes, Branch Manager at Redhill comments: “It’s such a privilege to be the manager at Redhill, the branch has a tremendous history and heritage. We are all looking forward to a successful week of celebrations and to another 100 years in the business!”
Over the last century, Brewers have been a main source of decorating supplies in Redhill, supplying both trade and local consumers with paint, wallpaper and decorating materials. The Brewers business was started in Eastbourne in 1904 by Clement Brewer and after a calling for a decorating merchant between London and Eastbourne, the Redhill branch was opened in 1911 by his eldest son Jack. A small shop was rented and a small builder’s business, Boughtons, was purchased as they held stocks of decorating materials, it cost a mere £300 and was later sold on. The branch has lived through two world wars and evolved over time from moving to a bigger premises, to using transport in the 1920’s and 30’s in order to increase their offering to the local trade. The branch has continued to supply customers with an extremely knowledgeable decorating service and expert products for the last 100 years.
