Biophilic design is a principle for
both architecture and interior design. The sole purpose is to design a space
that connects people with nature. It is known that human beings need to
incorporate elements of nature in their daily lives to maintain well-being, so
by incorporating the natural world into homes and commercial spaces, this can
have a positive impact on our health both physically and spiritually.

1. Natural
Colours
Colour is a big
element of the design, as the right colour palette will make the scheme feel
truly authentic. Think about the colours that would be created naturally such
as greens, blues and earthy tones. You can also select hues with earthy
undertones such as reds and browns for an organic feel. The natural world is
made of a wide spectrum of colour which gives you plenty of scope to allow for
personal taste too.

2. Using Natural Materials
Incorporating
natural materials in your space is key to this design principle. Wood, stone
and organic fabrics can all be considered during the sampling process to bring
your scheme together. Wallpaper is the perfect way to incorporate biophilia.
You can use a natural wallpaper such as grasscloth or incorporate pattern with
wallpaper designs inspired by nature. This could be greenery, flora and fauna, clouds or more modern designs featuring organic
shapes such as the new Albany Oasis collection. Be sure to pop into your local
Brewers to browse wallpaper books and order your free samples!

3. Incorporating Shapes Found In Nature
As we think about
organic elements, using curves, waves and non-linear designs within a space
will echo the natural world. Curved furniture is a big trend for 2025, using pieces
with curves or soft corners, allowing the space to flow. This can be mirrored
on the walls by painting organic shapes…you could even create your own mural!
4. Inviting Nature In
Finally, to complete
the scheme, adding indoor plants, flowers and other organic elements will make
the space feel more connected to nature. You can also consider the natural
light within the space and even water features to enhance the design. Consider
painting plant pots in the same colour as your walls so plant life seamlessly
blends into the space.
