Painting The Unexpected!

February 3rd, 2025
It’s no secret that we love the transformative power of paint – but how do you use paint in a way to create a complete showstopper of a space?
Here are some ideas to help you think about
paint differently and get those creative juices flowing, so you can create a
standout interior to be proud of.
Using Paint Instead Of Furniture:
If you are working to a tight budget, short on space or you just want to create something that is completely unique, using paint to create effects can add some fun and quirky touches!
You could
frame a wall mounted TV, paint a shelf to look like a fireplace or use several
shelves and paint around them to look like a bookcase.
If you want a big fancy bed headboard, or elevate an existing one, why not paint one on the wall instead?
Using a bed as the focal point within the bedroom can be further enhanced by using a colour on the wall to further define the space.
You could create a block colour that extends onto the ceiling or channel your inner artist and paint the headboard of your dreams.
We absolutely love how effective this can be!
Get The Look:
Tranquil - a calming blue
Albany Heights - a sophisticated tone of blue
Deep Sea - a mid-tone blue offering depth
Smooth Rose - a reddish pink
Blissful Blush - a hot fuchsia
Tapestry - a warm yellow
Stripes:
Using stripes is a sure-fire way to create a standout space.
Vertical stripes can make rooms seem taller whilst horizontal stripes can make rooms feel longer, so think about the effect you want to create before you get the masking tape out.
For a quirky look, diagonal stripes can make a space look graphic and make a bold statement!
You also need to think about whether you want your stripes to be all the same size or varying widths – try painting out your design onto lining paper first to see which style you prefer.
You can also go wild with colour.
Whether you choose two colours, five or more, this can drastically alter the look, so again, sampling is key here!
You can also choose to take your stripes
onto the ceiling, onto the floor, or even a part of the furniture or wall art!
The stripe world really is your oyster and is the perfect way to create a real
statement within your space.
Get The Look:
Tahiti Night - a powerful navy blue
Dune - a bold and uplifting yellow
Mineral Splash - a refreshing jade green
Pearl Grey - a delicate grey
Campion - a soft pink
Bermuda Mist - a warming white
Go Bold With Trim:
If you love colour, but you can’t quite commit to walls, why not be braver with your trim?
You can use your trim to outline your space by adding colour to skirting, doors, coving, stairs and other detailing creating a unique look.
Pair with a neutral on the wall for the most striking contrast. When choosing your colours, be sure to check you’re happy with how it will look in the space by choosing some samples first.
Design Where You May Not Expect…
Finally, we love adding elevated designs to spaces that you might not think about being creative in.
Little unexpected pockets of colour or pattern within the home can be a great way to create joy and give you the confidence to be a bolder with your choices.
For example, painting or wallpapering the insides of cupboards, under the stairs, pantries or wardrobes give you a space to let your creativity flourish.
We have upcycled an unloved cupboard and turned it into an unexpected piece that completely steals the show!
