Bird Brand Black Tar Varnish is a traditional and rustic looking waterproof, protective coating for timber, stone, brick and metal surfaces. 

Re-formulated in 2003 to be low odour, quick drying and can be used to over coat traditional weathered tar coatings. 

After prolonged sunlight it will weather from a gloss to a matt finish. 

Application is by brush.

Additional information

A coating to protect and give a tarred appearance to metal, wood, zinc, stone, brick, fibreglass, concrete and previously tarred surfaces. Low odour, quick drying with a gloss finish lasting for 6 months, before turning matt in sunlight. Not to be used in drinking water tanks. Does not contain coal tar. Professional users requiring a heavy duty tar material should use Bird Brand Coal Tar/Brushing Tar. For exterior use only.

For Protecting

Corrugated iron and weathered galvanised tin sheeting, structural steelwork. tanks, lead, wood and concrete. This material was previously certified for waterproofing potable cold water tanks.

Directions For Use

Apply a Red Oxide or other primer if metal surfaces show signs of rust, for long term protection. Apply 2 coats to clean, dry surface. The gloss surface will change to a matt finish after prolonged exposure to sunlight. This product can be thinned and equipment cleaned using Bird Brand White Spirit.
