Surface Preparation
Ensure the surface to be treated is clean, dry, sound and free from wax, oil or any other contamination. Bare wood should be sanded to a smooth surface, always working with the grain - do not use wire wool as this may disolour the timber. Oily woods should be cleaned with white spirit prior to application.
Previously painted or varnished surfaces should be stripped back to bare wood. Any excess resinous deposits around knots should be scraped off and the area cleaned with white spirit.
Building regulations require that all new timber is treated with a wood preservative.
Application
- Stir thoroughly prior to use.
- Apply a minimum of 3 coats by brush.
- Apply using strokes following the grain of the wood.
- For surfaces exposed to severe weather conditions, a forth coat is recommended.
- Thinning - Not recommended.
Clean Up
Remove as much product as possible from application equipment before washing with white spirit.
Do not empty into drains or water courses. Some local authorities have special facilities for the disposal of waste coatings.
