In detail
Used for wiping over a surface before decorating to remove dust., a tack cloth is a lint free material with a tacky substance, designed to remove dust and dirt from substrates prior to finishing. This is an essential step to avoid contamination of your substrate and to ensure a smooth finish when applying your topcoat. Unlike regular cloths, the tack cloth has been specifically designed to pick up the smallest particles of dust and dirt, so they do not linger in the air and ultimately land back on your project. A tack cloth is especially useful to help you create a mirror like finish in gloss work.
Using a tack cloth is similar to using a damp cloth, but without the use of water on your substrate which can cause harmful effects to your project. Clean the majority of the substrate first with a cloth or vacuum, then using light strokes, clean the substrate with your tack cloth. Check your progress by running a clean white cloth over the substrate. You are now ready to coat your substrate. For more advice on how to prepare your projects, head into your
