Supporting People In Surrey Who Need It Most - Providing Continuous Support To Surrey Care Trust
December 13th, 2023
Brewers have been supporting Surrey
Care Trust for years with annual monetary donations and the donations of
supplies when needed. With many Brewers Decorator Centres located in the Surrey
area, it is hugely important to us to help make this part of the world a
brighter place through serving the many communities in which we operate. But
who are the Surrey Care Trust? Here is just a brief overview of some of the
incredible work the charity carries out.
Nurturing:
Surrey Care Trust’s Nurture through
Nature outdoor activities help hundreds of people to improve their skills, mental
health, and wellbeing. For community groups and vulnerable individuals, their Swingbridge
Community Boats volunteers offer wellbeing cruises and
conservation activities on the Rivers Wey and Thames.
The Gateway Community Allotment team in Reigate
provides support and therapeutic gardening activities for families
and adults. They also deliver the new Outside & Active wellbeing courses for young people
struggling with the mental health. The Community Allotment run by the Stanwell Local Conversation
runs activities for local groups and families, helping people to get outdoors
and engage with nature.
Caring:
Trained Family and Youth volunteer
mentors help hundreds of young people and parents to raise their skills and
realise their aspirations. Developed over the past decade, mentoring and
long-term support have been combined with skills training for personalised,
practical help. Over the past year, volunteers donated 34,300 hours of their
time to help vulnerable and disadvantaged people in Surrey.
The Stanwell Family Centre Team also
offer outreach support, practical advice and activities to help parents give
their children the very best start in life. Over the past year, the Family
Centre team have successfully worked with 172 parents and supported 88 children.
Engaging:
They also provide the skills people
need to thrive. Surrey Care Trust work tirelessly to help young people, adults
and communities build their confidence and skills to create better chances for
life, learning and work. Every year, they work with hundreds of young people,
adults, and families through their Skills to Thrive programmes. With the help
of trained volunteers, Surrey Care Trust help them to develop the skills they
need to be more resilient and to build the confidence they need to fulfil their
potential.
Inspiring:
The award winning Swingbridge crews
cultivate new skills and share the calming effects of being out on the water,
with over 720 people benefitting from the wellbeing cruises, confidence
boosting courses, and environmental activities. Each boat offers something
completely unique:
On Swingbirdge Tranquility, community
groups and charities are welcomed who work with vulnerable and isolated people.
People can take part in skills courses and the boat’s wheelchair lift means
anybody can enjoy the wellbeing trips on the River Wey.
Swingbridge Endeavour carries out a
series of conservation projects along the Rivers Wey and Thames and anybody can
get involved. Carried out throughout the year, volunteers, including people who
might need support because of problems like poor mental health, addiction or
relationship breakdown, work to improve our beautiful Surrey waterways for our
communities and wildlife.
