In detail

Polyvine Oil Scumble is a traditional transparent oil glaze for decorative painting and broken colour work. 

Suitable for interior use, it dries to a gloss finish which is ideal for a variety of surfaces. Extends drying times making it ideal for colour washing, dragging, graining, marbling and stippling. Can be coloured using Polyvine Oil Colourant or universal stainers.

For durability once dry, overcoating with Polyvine Extra Pale Varnish is highly recommended.

Application is by brush with coverage is up to 20sq/m per litre. Dry in a minimum of 24 hours.

Surface Preparation

Ensure the surface to be coated is clean and free from grease, wax or polish and completely cured.

Application

  • Apply acrylic eggshell or alkyd undercoat in a colour suitable to create the desired effect and allow to dry for a minimum of 24 hours.
  • Thin the scumble with white spirit. Colour with alkyd paint thinned with white spirit.
  • Thin the mixture to required consistency. This will depend on the technique used.
  • Stir thoroughly.
  • Brush the coloured scumble over the base coat.
  • Create the desired decorative effect by breaking the surface with a crumpled rag, bag, sponge or a Polyvine tool or brush.
  • When the glaze is completely dry is should be overcoated with 1 coat of Polyvine Extra Pale Varnish.

Clean Up

Any equipment used can be cleaned using white spirit before the glaze dries. Wipe any excess off surfaces with white spirit. Any dried deposits will need a paint stripper to remove them.
