Disability Africa is a charity who works with disabled
young people, their families and the local community, developing a range of
services that improve the lives of disabled children in Africa – they currently
operate in The Gambia and Zambia.
‘Thanks to Brewers our new office will allow our small team to work together’
Brewers Guildford branch have provided a home in spare
offices above the branch for the UK offices of this young, up and coming
Not only has Disability
Africa moved into their spacious new office
above the branch, but they have also employed two Project Development
Officers. This means they can now expand to operate in
five African countries within the next three years - helping to change
the lives of children across the continent. Without Brewers’ support, this
would not be possible.
Their main project is in The
Gambia where they have built a large, striking and unique ‘Inclusion
Centre’, which will be fully operational by
late October. Here, the focus is on
working with the community to find
disabled children in critical need and provide them with long-term support.

The centre revolves around a playscheme for disabled young
people. This will end the child’s isolation,
provide an opportunity for children to make friends and create a fun and educational environment,
while challenging negative traditional beliefs.
Alongside the playscheme, there will be a range of support programmes,
including medical support, physiotherapy and support into mainstream schooling.
Ric Law, Director, said:
“Almost everywhere in Africa the needs of disabled young people are neglected
and their rights unrecognised. Thanks to
the lovely people at Brewers, our new office will allow our small team to work
together so that we expand and replicate our projects across Africa. It’s a
really exciting time for us!”
