Paul Henderson and friends to the rescue!

April 30th, 2018

Paul Henderson and friends became real life superheroes by transforming Lorenna’s new home. A family from Hailsham reached out to Paul from A Brush With Fate, to help re-decorate their new house. Coleen, daughter Lorenna, who has a tracheotomy fitted, and family, were due to move in but the home was certainly not fit for purpose as riddled with damp, even the wallpaper was coming away from the walls.

“At the time I had no idea what was in store but I knew some really good friends who would help, I had a chance to meet the family and Lorenna and I was blown away by how they just get on with it and it’s normal. To me it was a shock, and couldn’t imagine what it would be like in that situation.” Paul Henderson

Paul had originally planned to use materials from his stores but after a visit to the property, Paul soon realised that this was beyond that and some help was needed! Contact was made with Karl Wilkinson at Decorators Warehouse Hailsham and a variety of mistints, 10L of DWP White, Wallrock and caulk were kindly donated completely free of charge.

He knew that to complete this project he would need the support of some other compassionate decorators, so Nic Howard, Robert Hersey and Marc Fewell offered to contribute their time. The dream team gave up 2 whole days and nights to get the project started.

It was soon apparent that the project couldn’t be completed in a few days as first predicted, so a call out on the Decorators Forum came up trumps. Further products and tools were donated by generous suppliers and extra help was offered by Tom Bilton, Ian Wooler, Lucy Coker, Jade Gee and Jonathan Tilby who helped strip the garden and decorate the remainder of the home.

Thanks also go to Killian Callender from the Callender’s restaurant in Hailsham, who supplied a well earned breakfast and Viv Samuel from the Royal Indian in Hailsham, who donated three cases of Cobra lager.

We’re extremely humbled by the work carried out by Paul and friends to help improve the lives of Lorenna and her family.

“What started out as a plan to give up some time ended up in a wonderful project full of joy and proves to me and a lot of people what good can be done in this world!”
