Dulux's Announce Soulful Sage As Colour of the Year 2027

Inspired by the natural world and a growing desire for calmer, lighter homes, the Dulux Colour of the Year 2027 is Soulful Sage — a new colour for the brand. Find out more about the colour and its accompanying colour stories which are in response to a world that often feels a little too heavy.

Why Soulful Sage?

Dulux's Trend Forecast found that people around the world are feeling weighed down by busy lives. The answer, according to the brand, is a home that acts as a counterbalance, somewhere to switch off, reconnect and make room for joy. That idea sits behind Dulux's 2027 theme, 'Live Lightly', and at the heart of it is a soft, silvery green.

Now in its 24th year, the Dulux Colour of the Year is chosen by a panel of colour experts and design leaders. Soulful Sage follows Rhythm of Blues- the trio of blues that took the title for 2026 - and marks a move towards something more understated. Where recent years have favoured bolder statements, this is a shade designed to be lived with.

Soulful Sage is an ethereal, greyed-off green with a warm undertone. It is gentle enough to work as an alternative to a traditional neutral, but with more character than a white or stone. The colour also shifts through the day as the natural light changes.

Biophilic Design

The choice of a gentle green is backed by the growing interest in biophilic design – the integration of natural elements like sunlight and plants into your home. Time spent in nature has been shown to boost wellbeing, and bringing natural elements indoors can have a similar effect. Green, the colour of balance, is the natural choice for a room that needs to feel brighter. As Marianne Shillingford, Creative Director and Colour Expert at Dulux, puts it, there's "something wonderfully uplifting about green".
