A Quick Chat with Goode Decorating!

February 6th, 2023

We got in touch with George of Goode Decorating to find out a bit more about their work…

Thank you so much for taking the time to chat to us! How long have you been a painter and decorator for?

I have been a painter & Decorator for around 7 years, after learning almost all I need to know from my dad, who showed me the ropes within the industry. I then furthered my knowledge through extended courses and began my own business, progressing it to where it is today.

I absolutely love what I do, every job is different, and nothing beats the feeling of achievement when the job is done!

That’s so nice to hear how passionate you are about the industry. In terms of tools of the trade, what’s the best piece of equipment you’ve ever invested in?

I would have to say my favourite investment was going dustless with Festool's extractor (CT-15) & sander (ETS EC150). Pieces of kit I wouldn’t now be without. When it comes to wanting that perfect finish on your walls or woodwork these are the ones to use.

Ah yes, we are big fans of dustless sanding as well! What has been your most enjoyable job to work on so far?

My favourite job would have to be one that took place in April 2022, when I was asked by a customer to travel to Toulouse, to decorate their home. It was such an idyllic spot, surrounded by the French countryside.

It’s not only my favourite because it was a beautiful home to paint, but it allowed me to combine my work with my love of travelling too. I also got to share the experience with my colleague, Matthew, which made my time their even more memorable.

That sounds amazing…let’s hope they need you to come back! There are so many weird and wonderful places that also need a fresh coat of paint, have you had any unusual projects you’ve been asked to work on?

If by unusual you mean working within a cattle farm...then yes!

We were asked to decorate a space linked to one of the cattle sheds, for a customer who has had properties previously decorated by us.  It sure was different to my usual day to day work but switching up the scenery is a good test sometimes and definitely keeps the job interesting.

That is a great way to look at it! Do you have any favourite paints you like to work with?

Scuff-X Satin finish by Benjamin Moore is a great paint to use. I love how easy it is to work with, flowing with ease upon application and being very durable, it’s perfect for high traffic areas.

Also included in my top paints would be Dulux and Johnstone’s, as they both give great coverage with that crisp finish we always look for. Both offer great application via spray, brush or roller finish, making them good all-rounders.
