Johnstone’s Announce Country Soil As Colour Of The Year 2027
September 29th, 2026
Johnstone's has announced Country Soil as its Colour
of the Year for 2027, a warm, grounded taupe designed to answer a widespread
craving for stability in unsettled times.
Why Country Soil?
Johnstone's says the choice reflects the mood of the moment.
Amid global uncertainty, people are looking for security and stability in their
lives — searching for solid foundations to build on. Country Soil, a soft,
earthy neutral, is the brand's answer: a hue that feels grounding, supportive
and fundamental, much like the bare earth it's named after.
The Palette
Country Soil is the lead colour in a broader "Foundations" collection built around grounded hues and natural accents. It’s a palette designed to convey strength and reassurance and sits within three connected sub-themes:
- Solid Ground – earthy tones where humanity works in collaboration with the natural world, echoed in supporting shades like Coffee House and Boulder Creek.
- Quiet
Zone – softer, more insulating tones responding to our need for
privacy and calm amid constant connectivity, including Smoky Orchid, Linen
Ruffle and Blue Zephyr.
- Life
Shared – warmer, more energetic tones that speak to community and
togetherness, including Rojo Colonial, Italian Saffron and Rubber Tree
Plant.
The Bigger Picture
Johnstone's frames Country Soil as more than a passing
trend. In a world where being alone is increasingly seen as a welcome escape
from the complexity of modern life, and where people are placing new value on
privacy, community and things that endure, the brand says the colour speaks to
a "renewed focus on the fundamentals" — offering homeowners and
decorators a dependable, calming base to build around in 2027 and beyond.
