Acai Berry Has Been Named As Johnstone’s Colour Of The Year For 2025

September 26th, 2024

A dark, neutral-esque dusty violet with a mauve undertone, Acai Berry offers a sense of rarity applicable to all design themes and business units.

Acai Berry represents the appreciation for self-discovery and self-expression that have led to the rise of maximalism across industries, including design, fashion and consumer goods. As a result, Johnstone’s colour forecasters predict that professional and DIY designers will lean into dramatic colours like Acai Berry in 2025.

“So many people start their colour selection journey looking at bold hues, but ultimately settle for a more expected or muted colour,” said Donna Taylor, PPG colour expert, Architectural Coatings, UK & Ireland. “This year we are encouraging these users, to put aside trepidation about what the neighbours will think or potential resale value. For 2025, purple isn’t just permitted, it is encouraged.”

Forecasting trends for next year, Johnstone’s has named Acai Berry as their colour for 2025. The colour can be used within 4 trend palettes reflective of emerging inspirations across art and design that Johnstone’s have curated:

1. Extra Celestial

This palette sees a clear contrast between dark and light hues including a variety of blue and purple tones inspired by the perfect harmonies found in our galactic sky. A hue to express elegance, self-assurance and balance, Acai Berry offers a note of luxury and glamour in the Extra Celestial theme.

2. Bio-Fuse

A hybrid of nature-based and laboratory colours, the Bio-Fuse palette is both calming and unusual. While clearly a natural hue, Acai Berry can seem ultra rare and unusual in this palette.

3. Artificial

The mix of bold, playful hues and neutrals hints at the balance between real and unreal worlds. Acai Berry is perfectly balanced between red and blue to echo the themes of this palette.

4. Earth and Archive

A warm and inviting palette with sun kissed hints and earthy hues. Acai Berry provides a punch of intensity for this palette.
