Painting With Pride!

The offices
of Wolverhampton LGBTQ+ now have a beautiful new yoga and multi-use room thanks
to the ongoing support provided by Brewers Wolverhampton.
The room was in poor condition and needed
significant redecoration, so as part of the branch’s allyship with the charity,
former Branch Manager, Becky Johnson, offered to help…it became a massive team
effort with an incredible response from suppliers and colleagues during the
process!
Becky Tells Us More:
‘We donated Albany Durable Matt topcoat
paint and sundries, while generous contributions also came from Beissier,
Bedec, Tor Coatings, Axus and Sherwin-Williams.
My Regional Manager, Marcus Ward, gave me
two working days to help on-site with the project, while Tristan Oliver from
the Learning & Development team allowed me to borrow the Mirka sanding
machine from the training room.
Area Development Manager, Rob Bayfield,
also generously gave a day of his time to support the project on-site. I later returned
on two additional Saturdays to ensure the job was finished to a high standard.’
She added: ‘The experience was incredibly
rewarding. The team at the LGBTQ+ centre were welcoming, supportive and full of
energy and humour. It was a privilege to work with them and contribute to a
project that supports inclusion, wellbeing and the local community.’
Becky’s connection with the charity came
about through her desire to engage with the local community. Last year, Becky
and Rob began attending Wolverhampton BID meetings – a forum bringing together
a range of local organisations and businesses.
‘These meetings were not only a great way
to stay informed about local developments but also proved invaluable for
building connections and it was where we met Nick from LGBTQ+.’
She added: ‘We saw this as a great
opportunity to make a meaningful contribution and one that aligned perfectly
with Brewers vision in playing our part to make the world a brighter place.’
As a result, Brewers Wolverhampton
officially joined in allyship with Wolverhampton LGBT+ in May 2024.
Since completing the LGBTQ+ project, the new Store Manager, Diane Robbins, nominated Brewers Wolverhampton for the Wolverhampton BID Retail Excellence Awards and the store are thrilled to be a finalist!
Becky, who is now a Learning and Development Officer at Albany House, said: ‘The nomination was driven by customer votes via a QR code displayed in the branch, which makes this recognition feel even more meaningful.’
We wish the Brewers Wolverhampton lots of luck and will announce the results in July!
