Johnstone's Trade Woodworks Polyurethane Varnish is a traditional quality, tough and durable varnish for interior use on bare or previously treated, varnished timber. Suitable for use on doors, windows, furniture and all interior smooth planed timber, giving tough protection.

Application is by brush or roller with coverage up to 17 sq/m per litre. Recoatable between 16-24 hours. Use 2 or more coats as required, sand down lightly between coats.

Surface Preparation

Ensure all surfaces to be varnished are sound, clean, dry and free from dust, grease, polish or any other surface contaminant.

Remove any flaking or cracked varnish. Sound, existing varnish should be rubbed down with fine waterproof abrasive paper, rinsed thoroughly and allowed to dry.

Do not prepare the surface using steel wool.

Previously untreated softwood should be coated with a suitable clear preserver.

Avoid the inhalation of dust. Wear a suitable face mask if dry sanding.

Special precaution should be taken during surface preparation of pre 1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead.

Application

  • Stir thoroughly before use.
  • Apply two or more coats of varnish evenly, by good quality brush along the wood grain as required.
  • Do not overlap the brush strokes.

Clearing Up

Remove as much product as possible from brushes before cleaning.

Clean brushes immediately after use with White Spirit or Turpentine Substitute. Replace lid firmly.

Do not empty product into drains or watercourses.
