Surface Preparation
New timber and joinery should be clean, dry and smooth. Any knots should be cleaned off with methylated spirit. Rub it down with fine glasspaper, following the grain and removing any dust. Remove oil, grease, dirt or surplus glue to prevent these showing through the primer.
Oily woods should be thoroughly cleaned with a cloth impregnated with white spirit to remove natural oils. Remove old varnish completely and then treat as new timber. Any French polishes must be completely removed.
Application
- Apply 2 coats by brush.
- Work into all areas of detail and joints.
- Allow to dry fully between cotas.
- Do not apply to very damp wood as this will limit penetration and affect durability.
Clean Up
Remove as much product as possible from the application equipment before washing with water.
Do not empty into drains or water courses. Some local authorities have special facilities for the disposal of waste coatings.
