Surface Preparation
Ensure that the wood is completely dry and free from grease, oil and wax. Rub it down with fine abrasive paper so that the surface is smooth and uniform. Where possible any sharp edges should be 'rounded off' as these are particularly vulnerable to weathering. Remove dust by brushing or vacuuming. Wipe with a cloth damped with white spirit to remove final traces of dust.
Joints, splits, cracks and other imperfections should be filled with a flexible wood filler. Allow to harden and rub down to a smooth surface. Remove dust as previously described.
Oily timbers, such as teak, resinous areas and knots, should be thoroughly wiped down with white spirit prior to sealing.
Clean Up
All equipment should be cleaned immediately after use with white spirit. Remove as much product as possible from brushes prior to cleaning.
