Kelly From Albany House Smashes Her Targets For Charity!
March 18th, 2024
When Management Accountant,
Kelly Wallwork, found out last year that her husband has advanced secondary
liver cancer, she decided to set herself a couple of challenges to raise money
for two charities which have given them both a lot of support.
Not only did she complete both
challenges, but amazingly she raised thousands of pounds more than she had
anticipated. Brewers were thrilled to donate £500 to each incredible charity and
support Kelly’s efforts.
In September 2023, Kelly undertook
the lengthy 57-km walk from Polegate to Hove Park. ‘It took about 14 hours to
complete. It was a hot day and having Seven Sisters to tackle quite early on
made it even more of a challenge.’
In total she raised £2,175 for
Shine Cancer Support which was 725% over the initial target to raise £300. ‘The
charity offers support for people with cancer in their 20s, 30s and 40s and being
a smaller charity they were extremely grateful.’
Then in February this year, she
ran the Brighton Half Marathon in an impressive 2 hours and 37 minutes. Currently,
Kelly has raised £1,190 for Macmillan Cancer Support which is 396% over the initial £300
target.
She said: ‘Although a half
marathon is a much shorter distance compared to the previous challenge, I am
not a natural runner and it required more training to prepare for this event.
It also meant training over the winter in all weather conditions and getting up
early most Saturday mornings to fit it all in. I was very pleased that the rain
didn’t start until I was in the pub enjoying a roast dinner afterwards though!’
Kelly added: ‘I want to say a
huge thank you to everyone that has donated, they are both great charities to
support and I have been touched by everyone’s generosity. Brewers has been
incredibly supportive and I would like to thank all of my colleagues for their
ongoing support.’
