How To Nail Monochrome
November 4th, 2025
Whilst people normally gravitate to a black and white scheme
when they think of a monochromatic look, any colour can be used.
A monochrome scheme can be defined as using a single colour in
different tints (lightened with white), tones (muted with grey) and shades
(darkened with black).
But which colour should you choose?
Here is some inspiration from some of our favourite brands to
help you get the monochrome look!
Warming Whites:
You can still use white to create an interesting colour scheme
thanks to a diverse range of whites featuring a range of undertones.
Little Greene have used variations of Silent White, a pale,
warming white with the slightest hint of yellow to create a layered,
contemporary scheme.
Earthy Neutrals:
Combining earth tones to create a monochrome scheme is the
perfect way to make a space feel grounded and more rooted in nature.
Farrow & Ball have combined New White, a creamy tone with Faded
Terracotta (from the F&B Archive), a warming soft colour that pairs beautifully with natural wood
tones.
Cool Blues:
Dulux Colours Of The Year for 2026 is Rhythm of Blues.
This collection of upbeat, versatile blues can be used alongside
each other to depict a space that represents calm reflection, carefree bliss
and bold fun that is all connected to the natural world blue tones are often
found in.
Natural Greens:
Using a clashing green colour palette like this one from Albany
can create a truly striking scheme.
Combining forest greens with rich teals and soft sages works
perfectly for a modern look that feels cohesive.
Seaford, Friston Forest, Larling, Icelandic Surf, Parsley and Storm Blue has been combined with Zodiac from the Albany Fantasy collection to create an impactful feature wall.
