Healing, Hope and Positivity to All: A Message to Eastbourne Residents through Urban Art

July 28th, 2021

Brewers are proud to support Your Eastbourne BID once again in their mission to fill Eastbourne with colour and positivity.

Brewers Eastbourne were very happy to donate all the paint required for a new mural in Eastbourne Town Centre. Fifteen litres of Albany Smooth Masonry in a range of colours were used on the blank canvas, which was previously used as a billboard. The mural is on the corner of York Road which can be seen from Grove Road, a vibrant street in Eastbourne filled with independent shops, cafes, and restaurants, as well as home to Eastbourne Town Hall.

Your Eastbourne BID is a business led, and business funded organisation who strive to improve and enhance Eastbourne Town Centre. From bunting lining the streets to large urban art projects, Your Eastbourne BID’s latest mission was to create a mural designed to offer residents a signal of hope through the pandemic. Volunteering on behalf of Eastbourne Eco Action, the artist was given creative choice over the design of the mural, but everybody agreed it needed to be bold and bright.

The artist wanted to create a mural that inspired children; to make them feel important and that their actions are of significance, whilst also creating something bright and positive for the community. With children at the heart of the mural, the artist wanted to acknowledge that the younger members of the community bring light and happiness to society and deserve to feel heard. Bright colours were selected to add vibrancy to the area and the typography was inspired by fun fair lettering to make the piece of art bold and modern. The mural took a week to complete and there has already been a great response from members of the community who have really engaged with the message of the mural.
