Celebrating the Next Generation of Decorating Talent

Brewers' ADM, Jamie Williams had the recent pleasure of judging Heat 2 of the Skills Competition at Coleg y Cymoedd’s Ystrad Mynach Campus, where learners demonstrated an exceptional standard of workmanship across a demanding five-hour practical assessment.

The competition was designed to rigorously test each candidate’s technical ability, focus and precision. Far more than a simple painting test, the module required students to interpret a detailed brief and work within extremely fine tolerances, mirroring the standards expected within the professional decorating industry. Throughout the day, competitors were assessed across a range of core skills, including: design, cutting in, wallpaper hanging and stencil placement and application.

The quality of work produced was a credit to both the learners and the teaching team at the Merthyr Tydfil campus, with Jamie commenting, “the bar was set incredibly high, and the pressure was on.” The high level of workmanship reflects the dedication and commitment being invested in developing the next generation of skilled decorators.
