Illuminating Denmark Hill Rail Station

December 23rd, 2021

The team at Brewers in Peckham were delighted to be a part of the project that James Humphrey, Head of Design and Technology at Dulwich College embarked on this Christmas.  With the help of the Year 12 students the Christmas themed project will brighten the way for visitors to Kings College Hospital.  Four litres of blue and yellow exterior paint as well as 1 litre of Polyurethane Varnish were donated to give the perfect finish to the Cogmas Tree!

The chair of Camberwell Society commissioned the piece with the brief of creating a moving sculpture to bring Christmas cheer to the travellers that use Denmark Hill Station, many of which will be visiting loved ones at Kings College Hospital this Christmas.

After initial designs ideas were workshopped, the Cogmas Tree was born. Not only did the installation benefit the community, but the Year 12 students were able to learn new craftmanship skills and use a range of different tools and machinery to complete the project, which took just two weeks!

Beautifully engineered cogs turn harmoniously and are lit up with 300 fairy lights, painted in green, blue, yellow and red to really transform the piece into a spectacular display.

The students did so well to work together to achieve such a wonderful display for their local community this Christmas. Keep up the great work!
