Brewers And Local College Students Transform The Inclusion Hub For Defiant Sports

Brewers were thrilled to support the renovation of The Inclusive Hub for Defiant Sports, providing them with 65L of Albany Smooth Masonry and Rustins Chalkboard paint. 

The Story Of Defiant Sports:

Defiant Sports was created after several years of fighting to support my son, Callum, who was diagnosed with Autism, Cerebral Palsy and Impaired Vision, to find a suitable place in the sporting community.

I watched my son struggle with limited options, being given advice including “Put him in a wheelchair to play” or “We are inclusive, we have a ramp!” causing him to think sports wasn’t for him, further isolating him, lowing his self-esteem and happiness.

Eventually, we found tennis for the visually impaired. Here, he found comfort in playing with others with a barrier to participation and excelled, soon becoming a national champion! He became happy, confident and his self-esteem skyrocketed – it was life-changing!

My dream for Defiant Sports is to recreate those life-changing feelings for others whom society doesn’t appropriately cater for. We’re not perfect, but we get better daily with your help and will always strive to improve!”

The new site for the Inclusion Hub before decoration.

The Inclusion Hub:

This is the space where Defiant Sports carry out incredible work. The space is used as community drop in venue, providing sports spaces, sensory spaces, gym equipment and much more to be able to support members of the community. 

The brand-new venue is at Eastbourne’s Archery Recreation Ground and required some love in order for Defiant Sports to provide the incredible services they are known for. Whilst Brewers donated all the supplies required, painting and decorating students at East Sussex College worked on the site as a part of their work experience.

The finished result looks fantastic! A huge congratulations to all involved for creating such a valuable community space.
