Follow that Duck Raises Thousands for St Michael’s Hospice

October 28th, 2022

Brewers were proud sponsors of Follow that Duck, an art trail which came to an exciting close on Friday 7th October, when thirty-two uniquely painted rubber duck sculptures were sold at the Hook a Duck auction, raising over £75,000.

The auction which took place at East Sussex College, Hastings was conducted by Rye Auction Galleries Ltd, with concurrent online bidding courtesy of Easy Live Auction. Auctioneer Kevin Wall sold all thirty-two Lots within ninety minutes, with successful bidders both in the room, on the phone and on the internet.

Successful sculpture bids ranged from £1,500 to £5,500, with the duck sculpture sponsored by Brewers, Duckin’ and Divin’ raising £2,500 for the hospice. The duck has found a permanent nest a little further along the coast nearer to Brighton.

Perdita Chamberlain, Income Generation Director at St Michael’s Hospice said

The Hook a Duck auction was the exciting and nail-biting climax to a successful community engagement project, which St Michael’s Hospice is proud to have brought to Hastings and Rother. We were overwhelmed with the response from our community, and we are delighted that the ducks brought joy to so many people. We are extremely thankful to all the generous bidders, and we hope they will be very happy with their new ducks.”

Follow that Duck has been a summer long campaign, with fundraising taking place throughout the trail, including a raffle to win several prizes. This included £250 worth of Brewers vouchers we were happy to donate. The raffle winner was delighted to have won and will be the start of a full flat redecoration!

We were thrilled to be a part of Follow that Duck this year and would like to thank those who took part in the trail. We also wish to extend a huge thank you to those at Wild in Art and St Michael’s Hospice who worked tirelessly to ensure the trail was a huge success.
