Isabelle Boxall, New Home Grown Talent

October 17th, 2019

New British designer, Isabelle Boxall’s talent for drawing was discovered by the team at Wallpaperdirect, Brewers’ dedicated wallpaper website, when she shared her portfolio whilst working for Brewers in Tunbridge Wells.

Her beautiful designs have been transformed into a stunning wallpaper collection titled ‘English Garden’. The incredible attention to detail depicts nature at its best with magical colour and hidden jewels.

Who are your favourite artists/designers and why?

For my love of detail the paintings I can look at again and again are from the 17th Century Dutch Masters, especially Rachel Ruysch, her flowers almost look 3D.

It would be impossible for me to limit to one designer but a few of my favourites are…

William Morris - for his timeless placement of pattern and classical use of colour.

Cole & Son - every collection they launch is so clever, quirky and contemporary, I am always excited by their wallpapers.

Liberty - the iconic Liberty fabrics will always be a favourite of mine. I’ve been given a few vintage Liberty fabrics from my grandma. The prints are so nostalgic and Liberty London is one of my favourite places to visit at the weekend. To me, it’s a museum not a shop!

Do you have a favourite colour?

My favourite colours at the moment are teal, and mustard. I love the richness of teal; it complements so many other bright colours so it is perfect for partnering and mustard is such a cheerful warming colour. I love the depth of mustard compared to a lighter buttercup yellow, and I have a mustard rucksack, which I take everywhere.

What is your favourite style of interior?

This is a difficult question. My first love is colour. From rich, dark jewel tones to soft pastels either in wallpaper, paint or fabric. Maximalist interiors are so dramatic and instantly show off personality. That isn’t to say I don’t like more neutral schemes; I also think lighter, airy interiors are so relaxing.

What would be your ideal weekend?

Visiting a craft/car boot fair on a summer morning, going for a boozy picnic with friends and just spending quality time with family.

I also love spending weekends exploring new cities, going to the theatre and finding off the beaten track places to eat.

Where’s your favourite restaurant?

My favourite Italian restaurant is in Bath, Sotto Sotto. Situated near the Roman Baths, it’s all underground complete with vaulted ceilings. The staff are always so welcoming, and the food is amazing.

What is your favourite music or podcast?

Recently I’ve been listening to a lot of Marina, Agnes Obel and Florence + The Machine. When I draw I love listening to classical music or podcasts. Some podcasts I love are The Great Indoors, Table Manners and Happy Place.

Where do you shop for fashion?

Zara, & Other Stories, Anthropologie, Toast and H&M are a few of my favourites.
