Making Marks at Hull City FC!

A mural for Hull City Tigers has been a roaring success with the help of local school pupils, football fans – and staff at Brewers Hull.

Commissioned by Hull City Football Club to coincide with a series of supporter events over October half term, the mural was the handiwork of local artist Andy Pea, with the input of pupils at Thoresby Primary school.

"I set the children a task to come up with the inspiration and design for the mural, and the ideas they dreamt up were incredible," says Andy, who visited the school with Hull City centre back Matthew Pennington. Approximately 150 children submitted designs, and the three winning entries helped form the final artwork adorning the side of the stadium.

With strict guidelines informing how Hull City FC’s brand and logo are reproduced, Andy had to ensure he was using the correct colours in the artwork. "The staff at Brewers Hull are always happy to lend their knowledge," said Andy. "They really went out of their way to make sure I had good colour mixes, researching and checking with the supplier on the correct base and tints to achieve the best finish and match."

The mural on the exterior wall of the West Stand was painted with Sandtex Masonry Smooth – a preferred product of Andy’s, which he has been using in his work for over five years. "They have a brilliant range of standard colours and it goes on great, which is why I keep coming back!"

Once completed, players and supporters were invited to come ‘make their mark for the club' and leave their own paw print beside the City Tiger. "I wanted to make the mural something the fans could join in with," said Andy, "and the response has been fantastic. It’s an honour to paint this for my club, the supporters and the city."
