Mama Murals Uses Albany Paints To Connect With The Community

…And the results speak for themselves!
Emily of Mama Murals is on
a mission to demonstrate the power of murals. After a career in engineering, Emily
decided it was time to switch gears and started painting community murals to
bring people together.
Emily noticed a carving in
the stone above ‘Jennings’ a corner shop on Tachbrook Street in Leamington that
says 'Market Corner 1923'.
Emily spoke to members of the
local history society, and they found Tessa, a lady who lived in the area in
the 1950s.
Tessa wrote a lovely
account for Emily of her memories of the local shops in the street under market
corner, including a wireless repair shop, a drapers, a bicycle repair shop, a
grocers and a fish and chip shop.
“I used her
account to inspire the design and used my favourite Albany paints for the
painting (which was on the worst pebble dash texture, but the paint covered
brilliantly).
What was even nicer was
that by spending 3 days on the street painting, I spoke to the local people and
we chatted about their memories of the street.
One man remembers there
being a wool shop and he also bumped into another friend whilst talking to me,
they went to school together at the age of 5 and are now in their 70s.
I love the power of murals
as a vessel for connection and community. A new part of history is now embedded
into those walls.”
Emily used Albany Smooth Matt Masonry in some bright and cheery
Albany colours: Whisper, Cornflower, Daisy Heart, Petal Pearl, Pollen and
Sandstone Red.
