School Children Pay Homage To Matisse With A Mural In Albany!
September 19th, 2025
When Marner Primary School
based in Bow, East London, decided to create a mural for their playground, they
got in touch with our customer service team for some advice. Armed with all the
advice they needed, Albany Smooth Matt Masonry Paint and Polyvine Decorators
Varnish, the school was able to create mural magic!
The playground wall, which
was previously covered with a mosaic, had become damaged and needed to be
removed, so the mural was designed using school colours after a recent redesign
of their corporate identity.
“Brewers were extremely helpful in providing product information with advice about the preparation of the walls, which paint and varnish to use.
When visiting the store, the assistant took time to colour mix, paying care and attention to matching our corporate colours as close to the swatches.
They showed an interest in the project and
took the time to ring me and chat about my concerns. Thanks again!”

The design for the playground wall was inspired by shapes and ideas generated by children throughout the school after completing a project about Henri Matisse.
The idea behind the climbing wall was to create an abstract mountain landscape that was simple so that the ‘grips’ could easily be seen but still made a link between the idea of taking a journey and where and why you might need to climb.
The year 5 and 6 pupils got stuck in and helped to paint the mural too.
The response to the mural has been very positive from staff, parents and children.
The children love the new climbing wall
with the snow-capped mountain landscape, saying that it brightens up the school,
brings the playground to life and makes them feel happier!
