Fabulous Furniture Restorers Can’t Get Enough of Albany!

ShareWe got in touch with Ben and Scarlett of Snug Life Furniture to tell us how they use Albany to transform unloved furniture into one-of-a-kind pieces.
Tell us a little about yourselves!
We renovate and update preloved furniture, hand-painted and finished to a high standard. We are a small family business based in Canterbury, Kent, and have been running Snug Life since the start of 2021; although we have been doing furniture restoration at home for a few years.
Ben has a background working in construction and events so takes care of most of the preparation and repair work, and Scarlett has an eye and flair for interior design and life styling. We have two small children (Ophelia and Albie) and have a busy schedule, so being able to work from home as well as our workshop is a massive bonus. One day it is our dream to run Snug Life as both our full-time jobs.
Why did you start renovating furniture?
We have had the idea for Snug Life for a long time and started just by doing up furniture at home for ourselves, but always thought it would be a great business for us as we loved the results! Ben is self-employed and lost a lot of work due to the pandemic, so at the start of the year decided to finally put our creations out to the world and start our business.
We are also very conscious of the impact recycling and reusing can have for the environment, and want to do our bit where possible, by offering a colourful alternative to buying new furniture.
What type of paint do you use and why?
We dabbled with a few different types of paint when we started, but we were recommended Albany on a trip to Brewers. We have never looked back!
We love using Albany as it’s so easy to use and has great workability with furniture. We tend to use Albany Acrylic Eggshell as our go to due to the lovely smooth low sheen finish, but also really like Albany Super Satin, especially for any high traffic items with its extra durability.
The colour selection is also amazing, pretty much anything you can think of is available. Albany is also incredible value for the quality and finish of the paint, it goes a long way!
Where do you find the inspiration behind colour schemes for your furniture pieces?
We find that colour inspiration can come from anywhere, even finding a gorgeous pink and green combo on a recent trip to Peppa Pig world! We just love to use colours that we think will put a smile on people’s faces and make a real statement in their homes.
Where do you source your furniture?
We started off by finding items from charity shops and from relatives that were chucking stuff out, and online marketplaces is a great place to find old furniture. People are always selling old pieces of furniture that look worn out or need repair, we love to give them a new lease of life and new homes! We can also take existing furniture and restore or paint to any customer specification.
