Proud To Support The Chaseley Trust

The Brewers Foundation were thrilled
to be able to donate £2000 to Chaseley Trust, an organisation caring for people
with severe physical disabilities through residential, respite, day care and
therapy. Based in Eastbourne, East Sussex, Chaseley Trust is very close to
Albany House, the Brewers Head Office.
Nestled on the Eastbourne coast, a
stately manor has graced the landscape since its cornerstone was laid in 1893. For
the last 78 years, it has served as the long-term home for the residents of the
Chaseley Trust and is one of the oldest Care Homes in the UK.
The residents at Chaseley Trust have
the unfortunate challenge of living with severe disabilities, a result of
neurological conditions and illnesses that have dramatically altered their
lives. These individuals, whose average age is 46, face difficulties in
performing even the most fundamental tasks we often take for granted.
At Chaseley, the dedicated team not
only provide essential care, comfort, rehabilitation, and safety but also
foster an environment of independence, enjoyment and diversion through an
ambitious program of physiotherapy and activities. Each resident is recognised
as an individual, and their lives are supported accordingly.
Like Brewers, The Chaseley Trust was founded
in Eastbourne over 100 years ago and is an important part of the community. The
Chaseley building has been added to and altered significantly over the years,
but parts of the original structure still stand. The longevity of the care home,
coupled with the effects of sea air had taken a toll on the building and
despite providing decorating materials a few years ago, more work was needed to
be done so the residents could thrive in an environment they truly deserve.
The day room (the Casbar) where many
residents spend their waking hours, has not seen a redecoration since the 1970s
and £30,000 had to be raised to cover the costs of professional decorators and
paint supplies.
The funds were allocated to hiring
professionals capable of repairing door frames, addressing issues with walls
and ceilings damaged by water ingress and years of wear and tear. Once the
repairs were completed, all the walls in the hallways and common areas were
repainted ensuring that the living space of the residents remains pristine.
The residents are thrilled with their
freshly decorated hangout! They voted on the colours and the new logo – the
lighthouse. The Chaseley Trust were also able to display some historical Armed
Forces badges and photos from their first residents, The Chaseley Boys, who
moved into the home at the end of war due to their injuries.
