Johnstone's Smooth Metal Paint is a primer and top coat in one. This product can be applied directly to previously painted, bare or rusted surfaces and provides a smooth, flat, gloss finish. Smooth Metal Paint offers up to 8 years of protection, which extends standard maintenance cycles.

Offers anti-corrosive properties whilst maintaining excellent adhesion attributes. There is no need to prime, as it can be applied onto corroded surfaces and provides good resistance to water, humidity and UVA. Particularly suitable for the renovation of corroded substrates after the manual removal of loose layers of rust, it can also be used on steel cast iron and other steel elements.

Touch dry in 6 hours and recoatable in 12 hours. A second wet-on-wet recoat can be applied up to 1 hour after the 1st application.

Surface Preparation

All surfaces should be sound, clean, dry and free from grease.

Remove any crazed or flaking paint. Rub down sound glossy surfaces with fine waterproof abrasive paper and rinse thoroughly to provide a key.

Avoid the inhalation of dust. Wear a suitable face mask if dry sanding.

Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960’s painted surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead.

Application

  • Stir well.
  • Apply only by brush.
  • The brush should be fully loaded for best results.
  • One coat will provide adequate film build and opacity; however two coats will offer added protection and coverage.
  • If more than one tin is to be used, intermix prior to use.

Clearing up

Remove as much product as possible from application equipment before cleaning.

Clean equipment immediately after use with White Spirit or Turpentine Substitute.

Replace lid firmly.

Do not empty product into drains or watercourse.
