Additional information

Surface Preparation

Ensure the surface to be varnished is clean, dry, sound and free from wax, oil or any other contamination. If wax has been used clean the surface thoroughly with white spirit prior to sanding.

Bare wood should be sanded to a smooth surface, always working with the grain. Sound previously varnished surfaces should be lightly sanded to provide a key. Remove dust. Existing varnished surfaces which are unsound or in poor condition can be stripped back to bare timber.

Application

  • Stir thoroughly with a broad stirrer prior to use.
  • Can be applied by brush or roller.
  • If applying by brush, apply evenly using light strokes following the grain of the wood.
  • If rollering, use a short nap mohair roller.
  • For best results 3-4 coats are recommended on new wood and 2-3 coats on previously varnished surfaces.
  • Prior to application of the final coat or if the overcoating time is exceeded lightly abrade with fine glass paper working with the grain to remove dust.
  • Thinning - Not recommended.

Clean Up

Remove as much product as possible from the application equipment before washing with white spirit.

Do not empty into drains or water courses. Some local authorities have special facilities for the disposal of waste coatings.
