Additional information

Preparation
Ensure surface to be oiled is smooth, clean, dry and free of contamination. For surfaces previously treated with oils or waxes clean back the surface to bare timber with fine wire wool and white spirit, working along the grain. Danish Oil is an ideal finish for use over Blackfriar Wood Dye. Ensure exterior new or bare timber is adequately preserved prior to applying wood finishes, apply Blackfriar Goldstar Clear Wood Preservative to untreated timbers where required.

Application
Shake thoroughly prior to use. Apply oil liberally by brush or rag. Leave for a few minutes for the oil to absorb into the wood then wipe off any surplus. Allow the oil to dry overnight before using or recoating. When applying to new wood thin the first coat with 5% white spirit.

Thinning
Maximum 5% white spirit.

Limitations
For exterior applications Blackfriar Danish Oil, as with all oils will require regular maintenance. For optimum performance, inspect the coating on a regular basis and recoat at least annually or at the first sign of breakdown. On previously sealed surfaces some oils may dry to a slight gloss. This can be reduced by gently rubbing the surface with fine wire wool and wax polish, working with the grain. For kitchen worktops use Blackfriar Kitchen Worktop Oil.

Coverage
Up to 14m² per litre per coat. 4 coats recommended.

Drying Time
Touch dry in 2 - 4 hours. Recoat after 16 hours and within 3 days. Drying times are based on an ambient temperature of 20°C and 50% relative humidity. Lower temperatures or higher humidity will prolong the drying and overcoating times.

Clean Up
Take extra care as application cloths and soiled cleaning rags may self ignite without warning. Lay cloths out flat in single layers to dry, or wash out thoroughly in warm soapy water before disposal. Remove as much product from application equipment as possible before washing with white spirit. Do not empty into drains or water courses. Some local authorities have special facilities for the disposal of waste coatings.

Storage
Store in a dry, safe place. Do not store in environments where extreme temperatures may occur. Keep within 5-30°C. Do not store in direct sunlight.
