Creating A Beacon Of Hope At BCHA

When the Brewers Foundation read about BCHA’s mission to make their refuge a brighter place, we knew we had to support. A donation of £500 was made to create colourful murals for a warm and welcoming space, created by local muralist, Bethany White.

BCHA is a specialist Housing Association, with exempt charity status. They provide the highest standards of support and accommodation for people in the local community who are experiencing socio-economic disadvantages. They provide holistic support services for those affected by homelessness, domestic abuse, modern-day slavery, poor mental health and unemployment.

At BCHA, their mission is to help people take back control of their own lives. In Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, they support 35 women, 1 male and their children in their refuge, fleeing from domestic abuse. They work in a person-centred way to empower these individuals to grow in a place safety, so they can go on to live independent lives free from harm and abuse.

At the refuge, there are several survivors who are actively involved in customer engagement and co-production initiatives and are continually contributing to improve the experience for other survivors. 

At the refuge, the survivors have identified that in areas of the property, the spaces could feel more homely. One client came up with the fantastic idea of creating a mural that has been created by the survivors, including the children. The aim of the murals is to make the refuge feel welcoming and share a sense of hope and solidarity, creating a bright and positive atmosphere.

In addition to this, they also repainted two key working spaces with neutral and calming colours to create an environment that fosters the survivors to achieve the best outcomes.
