Brewers Minworth Joins PaintCare to Make Recycling Leftover Paint Easier

Brewers is now part of PaintCare, the paint take back scheme allowing customers to responsibly return leftover paint.

The scheme launched in Brewers Minworth on 9th March, with plans to roll the trial out across selected Brewers and PaintWell stores in the Midlands later this month.

PaintCare is a voluntary, industry funded initiative run by the British Coatings Federation (BCF) on behalf of UK paint manufacturers. The scheme has been created to make it easier for both decorators and consumers to return leftover paint so it can be reused or recycled.

For too long, millions of litres of leftover paint have often been left sitting in sheds and garages because there has been no simple way to dispose of it responsibly. PaintCare aims to change this by creating an accessible system where paint can be returned directly to participating retailers.

The trial brings together leading paint brands and retail partners allowing customers to return eligible paint and empty packaging directly to participating stores. Returned items must be handed to a member of staff at the clearly signposted PaintCare return area. All returned paint will be collected and processed by recycling and waste management partner.

Tom Bowtell, CEO of the BCF, said: “For too long it has been too difficult for people to do the right thing with leftover paint. This trial marks a major step forward — not just for our industry, but for consumers and tradespeople who want simple, practical ways to reduce waste.”

If the trial proves successful, PaintCare could be rolled out nationally, helping to significantly increase the reuse and recycling of leftover paint and packaging across the UK.
