Community Centre Makeover Gets the Thumbs Up In Ashton-under-Lyne

A community centre in Ashton-under-Lyne has been transformed
thanks to a paint donation from Stockport branch, with the new balcony nicknamed
‘Brewer’s balcony’ in our honour!
Hurst Cross Community Centre which is used by several
diverse groups including drama groups, MENCAP, a religious organisation and a
free weekly creative club for young people aged 10 – 16 was in
desperate need of repainting but no funding was available.
The branch donated 30L of magnolia durable matt and 30L of
ceiling paint as well as varnish, radiator paint and 3L of gloss paint, all in
Albany, plus some roller and brush sets.
One of the centre’s representatives, John Lyne said: ‘We have refurbished the balcony walls, main stairs to the balcony, ceiling and toilets. I've nicknamed this the 'Brewer’s Balcony! The final outcome with the Albany paint is quite impressive.
‘Brewers help with this is greatly appreciated. The feedback
we are receiving from users is tremendous and we have seen an increase in users
since we started this work. Again a really big thank you.
Tracey Williamson, also from the centre, said: ‘Much to our
disbelief and total amazement we were told you may be able to offer the
products for free. You cannot imagine what a difference this made to the centre
which receives no council or government funding and relies purely on
fundraising and goodwill.’
Stockport Branch Manager, Mike Ablott said: ‘The work they
have done so far looks fantastic. They were so grateful as they have to fund
everything like this themselves and as is usually the case they get no support.
‘These things are a great way of getting Brewers known to the wider community. When you see end results and the difference it makes then you realise it is worth doing.’
