Proud Decorator’s Complete Transformations Including Chambord’s Pop-Up Pub!

July 27th, 2022

Katharine Dempsey of Corbett Homes Décor has been in the painting and decorating industry for a decade.

Katharine was one of our lucky winners of our monthly #ProudDecorator Instagram competition, after submitting her entry of a redecorated bedroom in two bold colours that worked together beautifully.

Katharine’s Decorating Story:

I have been a painter and decorator for just over 10 years now.  I started Corbett Homes Decor on my own but very soon needed a larger team of workers to deal with the volume of work.

My favourite part of being a painter and decorator is of course the end result.

I definitely love the "wow factor”, it’s what got me into the business in the first place.

Transforming rooms in people's homes so that they can love spending time in them, and they can be proud of their environments is almost life changing, and that is a lovely thing to be a part of.

The job I was most proud of was a pop-up event for Chambord in Dean Street, London.

We only had 48 hours to completely transform a shop front into a bar for a PR event.

The space was a blank canvas, and the final result was stunning.

The event company we worked with "Wholehearted Events" had all the trades involved including carpenters, sign writers, furniture makers, designers, florists, spray painters, lighting, sound etc. and we were just a very small part of that but with team effort, long hours, and hard work it looked amazing.

I also occasionally mentor young students with Volunteer It Yourself who are non-profit organisation that work with 14–24-year-olds, many of whom are from Pupil Referral Units.

It’s great to spend time teaching them the trade and see how proud they are of their own work, quite often in their own school spaces.

We always use Dulux Trade for all our "white" paint which includes the primers, undercoats, satin, eggshell and emulsions (mainly for ceilings).

Our favourite paint brand for colour is Little Greene. The quality is superb, and you only need to use two coats (unlike some other brands) so that saves our clients on labour costs.

I have all their colour card tools to hand and although Little Greene provide a large range of colours it isn't overwhelming, which is something that my customers and I really appreciate.

Too much choice in colour can make life difficult!

With the vouchers we have won, I will probably treat myself to my usual Brewers favourites, Ronseal Woodfiller, Zinsser Stainblocks, Dulux Trade paints or maybe some lovely, coloured emulsion from Little Greene!
