DIY Solar System Mural

Create something out of this world

Katie Felton, Brewers Showroom Sales Advisor, recently decided to get creative with Albany by painting a DIY solar system mural in her son's bedroom. The mural went down a treat with her four year old son Miller, who loves his new imaginative bedroom.

Katie's Step by step guide

• STEP 1
• Paint the mural wall in two coats of Albany Durable Matt in Coal.
• 
  
• STEP 2
• To create the star effect background, use Albany Vinyl Matt in Brilliant White with an Albany Extra brush to flick small white specks onto the wall.
• 
  
• STEP 3
• To create the galaxy effect, apply Albany Vinyl Matt in Brilliant White to a brush and stipple the paint onto the wall using circular motions to create the effect.
• 
  
• TOP TIP: do not overload your brush with paint, make sure the excess paint is dabbed off before applying the paint effect.
• 
  
• STEP 4
• For the solar system colours, use Albany Vinyl Matt in Iced Cupcake and Albany Vinyl Matt in Chelsea Blue and apply in the same way as the white in step 3. To create the purple, mix together the pink and blue paints until you reach the desired colour.

• Once the paint is dry, repeat step 2 to create more stars.

• Use Google as a reference, stick on the planets and the glow in the dark stars.
