Proud Supporters of The Down's Syndrome Association

June 28th, 2024
The Brewers Foundation were thrilled
to support the Down’s Syndrome Association (DSA) with a £250 donation towards
their project, ‘Our Voice’.
The Down’s Syndrome Association is a national organisation, committed to improving the
quality of life of people who have Down’s syndrome, promoting their right to be
included on a full and equal basis with others. The DSA is a registered charity
and operates throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The DSA provides comprehensive information, advocacy, training and support services, including the DSActive DSEngage health and activity programme, support for maternity and health services, confidential information helpline service for people who have Down’s syndrome, their families and carers and the award-winning employment programme WorkFit.
As a part of the organisation, ‘Our Voice’ is a network of people who have Down’s syndrome aged 16 to 45 years who work on self-advocacy activities and campaigns, supporting the DSA in developing new resources, quality checking information and co-producing training.
Participants positively benefit from ‘Our Voice’ in a variety of ways such as the opportunity to develop self-advocacy skills, forming new friendships, building confidence, and giving DSA members the tools to have their say about things that are important to them.
“I look forward to Our Voice meetings because
I like to work alongside my friends and the DSA team. It gives me the opportunity to give my
opinion on important topics...I also like to hear what other members think. It
has given me confidence to talk in public” said an Our Voice participant.
