Metal surfaces can be ferrous, non-ferrous, or an alloy, and decoration will vary depending on the type. Some metals may not be suitable for coating.

Degrease the surface with methylated spirits to remove oils and contaminants.

Abrade with 100-grit abrasive paper to remove any loose or flaking areas and create a key for coating.

Once the surface is clean and all loose material has been removed, treat with as suitable primer and allow to dry.

Apply a suitable undercoat
